Ham's Great Deception: Ken Ham: Why I'm Debating Bill Nye about Creationism

On the date of the big Ken Ham/Bill Nye debate, CNN published an article by Ham, explaining his reasons for the debate.  While most of the article presents no issues, I want to focus on where Mr. Ham decieves the reader of this article.  At the end of his article, he states,

It’s an important debate, for what you think about your origins will largely form your worldview. If you believe in a universe that was created by accident, then there is ultimately no meaning and purpose in life, and you can establish any belief system you want with no regard to an absolute authority.

Ultimately, I have decided to accept an authority our infallible creator and his word, the Bible over the words of fallible humans.

The argument in the last paragraph is one that YEC's use over and over again...young earth creationists accept the authority of the Bible, and believe in a young earth as explained in Genesis, rather than believe in the words of fallible humans.

Here is Ham's great deception.  The text of the Bible, as contained in Genesis, contains the same words for everyone to read.  Yet, many Christians look at these words, and see an old earth, and a millions of years old creation.  These Christians, who believe in an old creation, ALSO ACCEPT the authority of our infallible creator, and His Word, the Bible, over the words of fallible humans.  What fallible human?  Young earth creationists!

You see, the Bible is just words, which must be interpreted by a human.  Ken Ham is a human, and he is fallible, just as I am.  He interprets Genesis to indicate that the earth is young.  His 'interpretation' is the words of fallible man, and not the words of God as contained in the Bible.  Ham wants everyone to believe that the Bible states the earth is young, when in fact, it's his interpretation, and not the actual words of the Bible.

Unfortunately, YEC's see themselves as the only ones who believe what God says (that God created in 6 days), when in fact, they are merely believing in an interpretation, and not in the actual Word of God.  For anyone tuning into the debate, please recognize that when Ham states he believes God's Word, he is merely stating that he believes in Ken Ham's interpretation of God's Word.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
