This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in November 2000. In answering this question, Morris lists many of the riches of this land, such as climate, oil, natural gas, coal, the diversity of its people, and above all, its foundations that were built upon Christian values. In all these matters, I agree with Morris.
Morris spends the rest of his answer discussing religious freedom. I agree that this is one of the great strengths of our country. However, it is also one of the most abused. Our founding fathers, who framed our constitution, were Christians. At the time that they were formulating our laws, there was much disagreement over the proper practice of the Christian faith. Because of this, they ensured that we all had freedom of religion. It was their intention that any Christian could worship how he saw fit. Technically, our freedom of religion was meant as a freedom to practice Christianity, and it was not intended for other religions.
I agree that our freedom of religion should encompass other religious faiths. However, the liberal interpretation of the words of our founding fathers has been used to outlaw Christianity. Organizations like the ACLU have sought to strip Christianity from our government, despite the fact that our founding fathers would surely have disagreed with these actions. I agree with Morris...we should select those (politicians) who respect and follow our Creator, and we should oppose the efforts of any anti-founding father groups like the ACLU.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
