Would the Discovery of Noah's Ark Do Any Good?

Review by Greg Neyman

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in February 1993.  In this question Morris examines the possible good it would do if we discovered Noah's Ark.  There is some truth to what he says, but not all is valid.

One misconception that people have is that if the ark is found, it would prove a global flood.  However, the ark and the geological evidence are two different things.  Since there is no geological evidence for a global flood, the discovery of the ark would only prove that Noah built the ark.  The ark itself would not testify to the global or local flood theories.

Morris says such a discovery would disprove the uniformitarian model of geology.  Not so.  Such a discovery is independent of the rock record upon which the ark is found.  Morris even claims that it would "probably ring the death knell of evolutionism."  Atheistic evolutionists would probably believe that the ark was built at a later time by fanatics trying to prove Genesis right, and they probably would not accept it as evidence, even if it was Noah's Ark.

When it comes to finding the Ark, I don't believe it will ever be found.  When Noah landed, all that wood in the ark would have probably been used to construct new buildings.  In all likelihood, the ark was cut up and used as lumber.  However, if anyone wants to search for Noah's Ark, you are welcome to do so.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
