Dr. John's Q&A #80, August 1995

Did the Evolutionists Present a Good Case at the Scopes Trial?

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in August 1995.  Morris examines what really happened at the Scopes Trial in 1925, and this makes interesting reading.  To be sure, both sides did not do very well, and it apparently was all a show anyway...a medium through which the newly formed ACLU could promote evolution.

Since most know about this trial, there is no need to discuss it at length here.  Morris does, however, make mis-statements in his answer.  In criticizing the evolutionist arguments, he claims that... "Neanderthal man, now known to be fully human."

To be fair, Morris wrote this answer in August 1995.  We now know, through DNA evidence, that Neanderthal was not fully human, although it did create to today's gene pool through interbreeding.  Science, through DNA, has proven that Neanderthal was a distinct species from modern man (or perhaps a subspecies of modern man).

Morris gives other evidences, such as Nebraska man, Piltdown man, and Java man.  I agree that these present no evidences that support evolution.
