B415:  If God really did create via long ages, he could have used another Hebrew other than yom to convey this meaning

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:

Young earth creationists contend that if God intended to convey the idea of millions of years, there are other Hebrew words He could have used

Source:  Numerous sources

Response:

  1. True, but these words would have destroyed God's intention to set the example for us of the seven day week.  If God had used a word which represents a million years, God could not say that we should work six million years, and rest the next million

  2. The word for day, Yom, beautifully serves a dual meaning.  The representation of our seven day week is fully explained by its use, and since it represents long ages, it explains the creation account
