D1311:  Some dinosaurs breathed fire

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:  Many YECs claim that dinosaurs breathed fire.  This is based on Leviathan in Job 41:19-21, which says "19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.  20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.   21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth."

Response:

  1. No dinosaurs have ever been discovered that have features adapted for breathing fire

  2. This is referring to Leviathan, which YECs claim was a plesiosaur.  Since plesiosaurs lived underwater, what good was breathing fire?

  3. Many beasts in ancient literature breathed fire, such as snakes, horses, and bulls.  God was probably speaking figuratively

  4. The only way to take leviathan literally, which young earth creationists try to do, is to say it was an angelic being, similar to seraphim
