Creation Science Rebuttals

Created Light?

For many years, young earth creation science proponents have said a possible answer to the problem of millions of years old light from distant stars was that the light was created already in transit from the stars.  After all, if light traveled at the speed of light in the young earth creation science model, we would only see stars that were closer than 6,000 light-years.

To their credit, many young earth proponents are now saying this cannot be correct, and rightly so.  I choose to mention it here, because word of this change or any other change does not always trickle down to the lowest levels.  There are still people out there that are uninformed about this argument.

The Answers in Genesis website gives a good explanation of the difficulties (click here).  In short, here is what I have always said.  God is truth, and as such, everything that He created is truthful.  Light created in transit would give the appearance of being much older than it really is, or, in other words, it would lie about its own age.  But since God is truth, He would not create a lie.  Therefore, if we look at distant starlight, it will testify to its accurate age, because God is truth (have I said that enough...how about one more time for the hard of hearing...God is truth).  We have starlight that has been measured from millions of light-years away, so, God's creation is itself testifying that it is millions of years old!

To demonstrate, consider the case of the Blast from the Past.  On 27 December 2004, a giant flare was detected, which came from an isolated, exotic neutron star within the Milky Way.  The flare was more powerful that any blast previously seen in our galaxy.  The source of this blast is 50,000 light years away, meaning that the actual blast occurred 50,000 years ago.

If you believe light was created in-transit, therefore giving the appearance of age, then you have to believe that this "blast" never occurred.  In this case, God created evidence of this blast which never occurred...in other words He lied.  However, God cannot lie...thus this presents a dilemma for believers of the apparent age theory.

Psalm 19:1 says "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork."  Who am I to argue with the Psalmist!  Who am I that I should look at God's creation, and say, "It must be wrong."  Do you know the statement…

God Said It,

I Believe It,

That Settles It!

So...

God Created It,

It Says "Millions" of Years,

That Settles It!

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
