On 24 January 2006 Answers in Genesis daily feature by Pam Sheppard was an opinion of a recent event in a California school district.1 The issue involved the teaching of Intelligent Design in a high school Philosophy class. From the point of view of many who oppose teaching ID alongside evolution, the teaching of it in other venues outside the biology classroom is perfectly acceptable, and Sheppard gives several examples of this in the article.
On this issue, I fully agree with Answers in Genesis, that ID could reasonably be taught as a philosophy class. After the Dover, PA decision, we should not waste any more money in trying to get Intelligent Design into the biology class.
While I agree in principle with Answers in Genesis, I do not agree in methods. Sheppard gives the position of the Discovery Institute, who said that the school district involved should "either reformulate the course by removing the young earth creationist materials..." Intelligent Design and young earth creationism should not be together, given that intelligent design seeks to prove there was a creator through science, and young earth creation science is totally unscientific. They are strange bedfellows who should not lie together. ID, within an old earth framework, makes much more sense, and both rely on true science to prove their points.
