This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in October 2000. As a progressive creationist, who does not believe in evolution, I agree with what Morris says in most of this answer. Morris uses a quote from an interview with a molecular biologist, who says that everyone he knows does not think that humans evolved, but he cannot admit this publicly, because the funding for his research is based on his belief in evolution.
Of course, I can point to several molecular biologists who would argue this point, and say evolution is true. But if what this scientist says is true, how do we know if they truly believe in evolution? They may just be claiming they do so that they continue to get funding for their research. Based on the way Morris answers, there is no way that I will be able to provide a response suitable to overcome this argument, as he will claim they are just lying to keep their funding.
The best we can hope for is for readers to educate themselves on the genetic code.
