Dr. John's Q&A #144, December 2000

Can Raw Energy Create Order?

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in December 2000.  The premise behind this question is that evolution requires something that can create life from non-life.  Many feel that this jump-start comes from raw energy.  If you put the right combinations of materials together, along with the sun's energy, you have a possible catalyst for life.

Morris chooses to compare this prebiotic soup answer to the building of a house in Oklahoma.  Although all the building materials were delivered to the site, they sat in the Oklahoma sunshine for a summer.  However, despite their being in abundant sunshine, they did not assemble themselves into a house.

This comparison is ridiculous.  Sunshine cannot move bricks...but it can move objects on a molecular level.  A liquid, when it heats up, is quite active.  Comparing a liquid to solid objects with much greater mass is not a fair comparison.  However, fair comparisons are not typically found in young earth creationist arguments.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
