Dr. John's Q&A #67, July 1994

Does the Geologic Column Prove Evolution?

By Greg Neyman

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in July 1994.  Morris is right in that discussions of the proof of evolution usually include the geologic column.  The column can show where in the rock record particular types of fossils are found, but just because they are found there, that has nothing to do with proving evolution.  As Morris states, you must examine the fossils themselves to make any type of evolutionary claim, and I agree.  The column, by itself, does not prove evolution...it merely supports evolution.

Morris expands this discussion beyond the geologic column, in order to fill space, but I see no need to do that here.  These issues are addressed elsewhere.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
